God desires that we live a healthy and whole life in every aspect, and this is evident in the Bible. In Matthew 8:1–17, there are various accounts of Jesus healing the sick. In verse 17, we learn that Jesus took away our illnesses and bore our sicknesses so that we could be in good health. Furthermore, Jesus gave his disciples the authority and power to heal the sick and deliver the oppressed from satanic powers in Matthew 10:1 and Luke 9:1. Throughout the Bible, God shows that it is his will for us to live in divine health. Even before Jesus went to the cross to deal with sin, he first dealt with sickness, as stated in 1 Peter 2:24. Through his stripes, we were healed. Jesus was wounded and striped before he went to the cross, and this was a sign of our complete healing. Therefore, when God looks at us, he doesn’t see sick or weak individuals but sees us as strong as Jesus himself.
Healing Ministration
Even though God sees us as whole, why do we still need healing? The reason we minister healing is to enforce the victory that Christ won for us. As believers, we demonstrate the power of God to take away sickness and enforce the victory of Christ. It’s like how policemen go about enforcing the laws of the country. Similarly, we enforce the victory of Christ over sickness. In Mark 16:17–18, Jesus assigned believers to heal the sick and lay hands on them. In James 5:14, it is written that if anyone is sick, they should call the elders to pray the prayer of faith for their healing. This means that no one is supposed to be sick, but if anyone is sick, they can call on the elders to pray for their healing.
Gifts of Healing
In 1 Corinthians 12:9, we read about the gift of healing as one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The gift of healing is the supernatural ability of God in a person that brings about healing and restoration to health. It’s not related to the person’s super-faith or physical ability, but purely by the grace of God. This is what is often referred to as the healing anointing. It’s when God imparts his power to a person to cause healing to happen through him or her. When someone with the gift of healing prays for someone who is sick, they can be healed through the power of God working through the person. It’s a powerful manifestation of God’s love and grace.
Difference Between Healing by Faith and Gifts of Healing
As believers in Jesus, we have the ability and command to heal the sick by the indwelling Holy Spirit and the command of the Lord Jesus Christ in Mark 16:17-18. This is healing by faith in the word of God. When we take the word of God and pray for the healing of others, we can see them healed. Peter’s response to how the lame man at the beautiful gate was healed was that it was done through faith in Jesus’ name. (Acts 3:16 NKJV). On the other hand, the gift of healing comes into being when God’s healing power or anointing comes on a person to heal the sick. Man has very little or nothing to do with it; it is entirely the result of God’s divine act. Jesus Christ declared that it was the anointing of God working miracles in Him. (John 14:10) “The Father who dwells in Me does the works.” We see this in the life of Jesus, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power, and He went about healing all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38 ). The gift of healing is a powerful manifestation of God’s love and grace, and it’s an incredible gift that God has given to some individuals to bless and heal others.
Types of Gifts of Healing
It is evident from 1 Corinthians 12:9 that there are multiple healing gifts. The verse talks about the gifts of healing in the plural form, indicating that there are multiple gifts of healing. Each gift is specific to various health challenges. Some individuals in the Healing Ministry are tagged to get more results with certain conditions than others. In Acts 8:4–8 NKJV, we read about Philip’s ministry, where many paralyzed and lame were healed, and unclean spirits came out of those who were possessed. Some believe that Philip might have had more grace in healing the paralyzed and the lame. It’s crucial not to limit ourselves in any way and not put ourselves in a box. As believers, we have the Holy Spirit in us, and as long as He is not limited, we cannot limit ourselves in the way God heals. Therefore, we should minister to all and expect all to be healed in the name of Jesus. We should trust in God’s power and not our abilities, as His healing power brings healing and restoration to people’s lives.
Activating The Gifts of Healing
EXERCISE: As a believer in Jesus, believe that you have the Holy Spirit resident in you like Jesus. Therefore, place your faith in Jesus’ promise that he will heal those you minister healing to. With this simple faith lay hands on or pray for the sick and believe they are healed as you pray and expect testimony.
Journal your experiences
You have a lifetime before you become perfect; therefore, keep practising.
LET ME PRAY FOR YOUR MIRACLE
Believe that Jesus Christ was stripped for your healing and died for your sins. Healing is a must-receive for you as long as you are a child of God. Give your life to Him if you have not yet.
Father, I release your life into the reader now and command every infirmity to be completely gone now in the name of Jesus.
I declare the reader healed and whole in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Your miracle is established in the name of Jesus.
God bless you.
(I would love to hear from you about how you are doing)
