In today’s fast-paced world, the concept of wisdom is often associated with the ability to apply knowledge in our daily lives. We acquire this knowledge through our environment, learning, and experience. However, the Bible offers a unique perspective on wisdom, distinguishing between the wisdom that comes from above and the wisdom of this world, also known as carnal wisdom. In this article, we’ll explore wisdom that comes from above as in James 3:15-17 and delve deeper into Word of Wisdom; a gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Word of Wisdom is a special endowment of divine wisdom from above (1 Corinthians 12:8). This spiritual gift is significant because it offers us a glimpse into God’s wisdom regarding people, places, and things. However, it is essential to note that the Word of Wisdom does not encompass the entirety of God’s wisdom, as the scripture states that we only see and prophesy in part. To gain a better understanding of this gift, we will examine its significance in the following context:
- Understanding life issues: The wisdom of God, or the Word of Wisdom, aids us in comprehending life issues. In 1 Chronicles 12:32, we encounter a group of young leaders in Israel known as the sons of Issachar, who possessed an understanding of the times and what Israel ought to do. Furthermore, in 1 Kings 3:16-28, we learn about King Solomon, who was blessed with divine wisdom and used it to discern the real mother between two women contending for a child. His ruling was so astute that it won the admiration of many in Israel, and they knew that God was truly with him. This gift of divine wisdom is not limited to the Old Testament era, as there are people in our world today who possess such a gift. For instance, some are capable of understanding the events of our time pertaining to the end times. The blood moon is one such example, and some individuals can decipher its significance concerning the end times.
- Comprehending complex matters: The Word of Wisdom is an exceptional gift that allows us to comprehend complex literature, dreams, visions, and mysteries. In Daniel 1:17 and Daniel 5:25, we encounter Daniel, who possessed the ability to understand dreams, visions, and mysteries. For instance, there was a time when the King of Babylon, Belshazzar, was partying with his friends, and a mysterious writing appeared on the wall, “MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN,” which troubled the King. Daniel came and deciphered the spiritual meaning of the writing and revealed it to the King. In modern times, we still have people who possess this gift and can explain dreams, decipher the elements in dreams and visions, and predict with accuracy. This spiritual gift is still in operation today.
- Predict the future: The gift of the spirit known as the Word of Wisdom includes the ability to foresee the future, to tell what will happen next and to predict future events.
- Explaining life events: This gift of the Word of Wisdom is also unique in that it enables us to understand certain events or occurrences in life. For instance, some people can read spiritual or prophetic meanings into numbers. They may look at a wall clock, and the time it shows may hold some spiritual significance or prophetic meaning. God can also use car numbers or other numbers to communicate messages to people, and some individuals can predict future events with numbers. Additionally, strange occurrences like omens can be interpreted through this gift. For example, if someone is running and suddenly crossed by an animal, it may have a spiritual significance, and people with the gift of the Word of Wisdom can interpret such events to understand their meaning. Nature also presents opportunities for interpretation, as certain things that occur in nature may have a spiritual significance that can be interpreted through this gift. Trees, animals, and other natural phenomena may have a deeper meaning that can be understood through the Word of Wisdom.
How Word of Wisdom is Received
The Word of Wisdom, like any other gift of the Holy Spirit, is received purely by grace and cannot be earned through merit. One cannot force God to impart this gift upon them by any action. However, if you do not possess this particular gift of the Spirit, there is no need to worry. The Holy Spirit dwells within you, and you can rely on Him for divine wisdom to guide you through any situation.
The Operation of Word of Wisdom
The Word of Wisdom operates using our spiritual senses. The way this gift operates varies, and individuals may experience it differently, leading to significant differences in its operation among people who possess this spiritual gift. Here are some of the ways that the Word of Wisdom can operate:
1. Sight: This can manifest through different types of visions, including open visions, where one can see visions with open eyes, inner visions, where one sees snapshots of images on the screen of their imagination, trances, where one sees visions in the state between sleep and awake, and dreams, where one receives revelations while asleep.
2. Hearing: This involves hearing things audibly in the spirit.
3. Smell: Some individuals can smell things spiritually.
4. Taste: This involves tasting things in the spirit.
5. Touch: Some people can feel things spiritually.
6. Knowing: This involves getting to know things spiritually.
